Hi everyone...........

Just started with mild toothache the other day and now it is a raging pain. Taking Co-codamol and Ibuprofen, and it really is not helping at all. It is driving me insane been awake since about 4am with it and just no relief at all.

All my own fault, I hate dentists and have not been for years, and my teeth are not great at all. The pain is coming from a broken tooth and have not ever not been able to get rid of the pain.........am thinking it is an abscess.

My question, I have no dentist, cant go to the doctors anyone any idea what I can do??? I'm taking so many pain pills I feel sick and light headed!

Any help gratefully received.

Hi
Firstly, you need to get registered with a dentist pronto. I know you know this but diabetics are at higher risk of gum disease problems due to circulation/bg causing breeding ground for infections.
I believe that this is not necessarily related just to good control or not but in general.

Also, infections will make your bg go higher so on top of toothache your bg will be horrible. I think given you are diabetic and if it is an abcess you might need antibiotics, then its legitimate to contact an out of hours GP. They might not be sympathetic to the pain angle but under the auspices of infection you could see them.

I dont know of any out of hours dentists per se but maybe in your area there is one? If you dont have a dentist, could you contact a local dental hospital?

I have known of people to got A and E due to pain relating to dental probs so maybe a last resort for better pain relief, esp as its a bank holiday weekend?

Hope you feel better soon

L

PS - watch the painkiller intake !

Shortbread.
Most A & E Dept's have access to Emergency Dental treatment. Get along there and they will sort you out.
As Lilibet also says your GP will have an out of hours number so ring that if you want more advice and help.
You could also try NHS Direct if no luck at GP's. They will probably direct you to A & E.

Thank you both for your advice.

I think I may well have to go to the A+E , as I am just getting no relief from it at all. Usually with toothache I can get rid of the pain with strong meds, but this one is horrific, there is just no easing at all! Feels like someone is stabbing my mouth with a huge needle!!!!

Needs sorted, but just soooooooooo embarrassed, really shouldn't have let my teeth get like this, but dentists make me so anxious
