Hi,
i'm a bit concerned that I am showing signs of diabetes at the moment (they have started over the past couple of weeks) - but I didn't want to go visit my doctor unless there was a strong possibility of it being diabetes, as i might just be being paranoid!

I'm 17 years old, female, & am slightly overweight (only by about half a stone though). Recently i've been needing to drink up to 10 pints of water a day to stop myself feeling dehydrated, & therefore been urinating more frequently as well. I've also got a fungal nail infection at the moment (nice, I know) and have been losing weight quite rapidly (7 pounds in 3 weeks) without excessively dieting or exercising immensly (I have been more active over the past month though). This doesn't seem like a lot of weight to lose but I have an incredibly slow metabolism as it is, and have always struggled with my weight.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Becca

Hi Becca.

Welcome to the forum. From what you say about your symptoms you really need to see your GP and relate to him/her.

We do not diagnose here. Your symptoms may or may not be Diabetes related. See the GP.

What Ken said. Get an appointment with the doctor as soon as you can.

You can also think about contacting NHS Direct this evening on 0845 4647, discussing your symptoms with them may help you to get a more urgent appointment than just calling the surgery and taking what is available.

You might also consider going to a local pharmacy - some of them offer free blood tests and the pharmacist can offer you some advice on how urgently you need to act.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

mum got me a home test thing from boots this morning, i think i have to wait until tomorrow to do it though...

hopefully getting an appointment shouldn't be too bad as our family friend is my doctor!

thanks for all the help, i'll let you know how the test went tomorrow.

Becca

I did the glucose test this morning, my reading came out at about 7 without breakfast.

Do i need to worry if it's only just over the "normal limit"?

Cheers,
Becca

Becca.

Please stop worrying about your Bg levels. I hope you have made the appointment to see your GP ?
When you have seen him/her and you have a proper diagnosis then come back and ask questions. Stress can affect your Bg levels significantly.

Ken.
