soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
this morning at 0415, my T1 husband woke me up in a severe hypo [1.2] . This is the first time for many years. After an hour of trying to get his BG up and failing, I ended up calling the paramedics, who came quickly and dealt with the situation compassionately and efficiently. It took them another hour to get his BG up to 6.1.
Later this morning, my vet brother rang up. Of course I told him about the dawn adventure and he made me a very helpful suggesstion.
Get a 20ml syringe [no needle] from the pharmacy and some powdered glucose. then it's easy to dissolve a couple of tablespoons of glucose in a little hot water and when cooled to squirt it into the h6ypo persnon's mouth. Be careful to start with and check for the swallow reflex..He said research has found that oral glucose actually works faster than IV :?
I shall do the purchasing on Monday. The adventure happened at my Mum's house 90 miles from home. So I had to search the pantry for supplies. I couldn't find where T1 had put his emergency kit, but i did find some powdered glucose.
Ths hypo was odd. We've never had to deal with anything quite like it before. He said later, after he was fine, that it shouldn't have happened. He dosn't think he had much insulin in his system at that time. Having had his last Actrapid about 8:0pm and Lantus not much later.
He'd drunk a bit of wine during the evening, so I suspect that.

Hana, your husband should have a glucagon injection kit in the fridge for such emergency's, they are ideal for situations that you and your hubby found yourselves in this morning.

Hi Hana,
Everytime I go out with friends or drink alcohol I alway go low, alcohol usually takes my blood sugar really high but i never take any insulin because that will make me go even lower. I try to eat a few carbs before i start drinking.
I hope that your husband is okay.

Thanks for the kind thoughts!
We don't ke4p Glucagon at home anyway and evn when the paraamedic gav it the reaction was slow or not at all.We were away from home which is always moe difficult. i was searching my mother's panty a 4:15 . i did find the glucose in there. I knew wehad jelly bagbies in the car and also some Lucozade, but it wouldn't have been enough on this occasion. i have dealt with qa few hypos in 40 years, but nothing quite like this. The numbers just wouldn't ome up.
