Basically a haematoma forms when blood escapes from blood vessels but does not disperse or emerge from the body (perhaps as the result of a blow rather than a cut or tear for example). A haematoma which has formed under the skin may be visible as a bruise. It may be seen to change colour over time (purple to green to yellow) as the blood is broken down and reabsorbed by the body.
A haematoma can also form at any other site of injury within the body and in some cases it might be necessary to operate, to drain it or to ensure that the bleeding has stopped. Perhaps this is what was referred to?
Another thought - there are tumours with somewhat similar names eg haemangioma, which might be "cut out".
