I am a female and 59 years old. I went to a clinic complaining of neck and chest sweats and waking up 5-7 times every night, extreme tiredness like one does when they have the flu but I don't, and what I guess is a floater in my right eye and blurry vision.

Dr thought it was diabetic retinopathy and sent me for tests and told me to try and keep my blood sugar level and drink lots of water. Beings as I don't really know how to keep my blood sugar level, but I do know sugar will spike it, I laid off sugar, but not fruit for a day or two and went for tests. The sweats stopped almost immediately, still feel rather weak but not too much and only wake up once every night, usually one hour after falling asleep. The night before blood test I had pasta for dinner and a couple cookies during the day. Glucose came back at 5.9 mmnl/L other previous tests have all been 5.2 or 5.6, 5.4 so I'm thinking that's pretty much my range. I live in Canada and I guess that's considered normal range here. Dr said definitely not diabetes and not thyroid.

What I am wondering is if the blood test could be wrong as I seem to have every symptom of diabetes or hypoglycemia that I have read about, except the tingling feet and hands. Any ideas - anyone?

What tests did your doctor order to check your thyroid function? And what were the results?

If you think it's hypoglycemia, the only immediate way I know to see what's happening is to find the cheapest glucose test strips available in Canada and the glucose monitor meter and lancing devise to go with them, and to start documenting your blood glucose levels every time something weird happens. You can also test prior to meals and 2 hours post meal. Sorry you're going through this.

Hypoglycemia was how my diabetes journey started 35 years ago.

Yes, interested to know what test your doc did... was it just a finger prick test? or a hbA1c blood test? I'd be asking for the hbA1c test if that hasn't been done as that will give you an average of past 60 days for your sugar levels. I agree with @Winnie53 about getting yourself a glucometer if you can and doing some testing yourself. I hope your doc has done a full blood count for you and checking everything to make sure you don't have any imbalances. When you're having symptoms there is something causing them and it is hard when you don't know. I hope you get answers soon. I wish you the best. :)

Thyroid is TSH right? 2.5 mU/L cholesterol is a little high 5.52 mmol/L

I had a blood drawn from my arm after 12 hours of fasting, I don't know the name only says glucose fasting 8 hours.

My hair has been falling out for years, eyebrows sparse but have come back recently with castor oil application, I have no hair on my legs, arms, only need to shave armpits every few months. Headaches daily, have woken up with a headache a couple times lately, not bad though, giddy in the afternoon before eating I feel like I've had a drink or two. Random pain on different parts of the tops of my feet causing pain when walking, goes away after a few days or with magnesium oil. I do eat quite healthy but have a sweet tooth, walk at least a mile everyday.

I'm going to go to a different DR and asking for FSH test and iron, Vit D, wondering if I should insist on that other Diabetes test where you drink something and they test you again?

Yes, good idea... get a second opinion. Ask for every test to be done... they need to rule things out for you at the least anyhow. Whatever it is, it sounds chronic for you.
