Hi' on Friday went to see the doctor to get an antibiotic as I was being sick with everything could not even keep water down, got into surgery and just said to him I need to lay down.
Nurse came in and they checked for diabetis. my reading was 35.

She panicked the doc panicked and I said is that all' to tell the truth I could not care less as I was floating.
3 hours later all test done at hospital and linked up to two drips and insulin syringe with insulin by needle every hour.

3 days later and I feel great' the best Ive felt in 20 years.

Because I had went that bad Im told it will take six months to settle down, the diabetic nurse phoned today and I gave her my readings for last night 28.7 before meal and 28.9 2 hours later, then 16.9 at 3am and this morning the machine just said HI.

So a lot to get used to as Im producing nothing myself and dependent on insulin.

What Im finding hard is im blind in one eye and because of this my sight is blurry in other eye, I really hope this clears.

Another thing is Ive lot half my weight overnight and have no clothes that fit, but the beauty of it all is Im alive and will see celtic play in europe tomorrow' isnt life great

Welcome to the forum Joe,a Celtic supporter eh,must be a Scot then? The blurriness will settle down once your blood sugar levels come down.

I'll let someone else comment on the insulin etc as I am type two and not an insulin user.Have a good browse round the site and you will find plenty of info to help.

Shame about being a Celtic fan, but no-one's perfect eh? I am a newbie too, having been diagnosed today. I am lucky that my diagnosis is not as shocking as yours, but I feel like I have been hit by a bus by the shock. Hope your blood sugars get under control soon.

Hi Berry
Had a banana after dinner tonight and then read that this raises your blood sugar levels.
Its a great site for learning stuff. Cant wait till Friday till I see the diabetic nurse to answer a few questions.
Who would have thought I would spent so much time wondering if I should have a bannana or not.

My fingers are cold now the first time since friday (wonder what that means).

Welcome to the forum!
Cold fingers can be a side affect of sugars being higher I get them especially with keatones - do you still have some? Its your body drawing in its resources to vital organs if it persists through the night best bet is just to go check with your GP in the morning or if you have a good diabetic nurse gie her a call and just check it out.

Hi Kim
The nurse is phoning tomorrow and Ive to get a getting a keytone machine on Friday from the nurse (dont even know what it is yet) just did a blood reading 16.9 so happy with that as its lower than 28.8 last night at the same time.

Hi Kim,

Welcome to the site from me too.

When I was diagnosed as diabetic in 2005, and initially put on Insulin, Doctors & Nurses kept asking me how I felt about being diabetic, and "It must have been a shock to you". In fact, I wasn't at all surprised as I was suspected of having diabetes 30 years previously; unfortunately the Glucose Tolerance Test was not done properly. Instead of being told to rest, I was told to "come back in 2 hours". In the meantime, I went for a brisk walk of about TEN miles before the second part of the test; no wonder the result was negative!

To me, being told I was Diabetic, was just adding yet another medical condition to the list of about 16 that I already had. No big deal. :D
