well i am on metformin 2 a day (goes upto 3 a day 2moz) well today i seem to need the tolet constatlly but when i go i dont do anthing each time (tbh i feel i might as well sit there all da lol) anyway i was thinking mabe it was a urine infection so i decided to go for a bath to see if it helps it seems to have a little but now i have noticed there is some spotting/bit of blood and i wos wondering if its confused my body as i have the depo injection and have been for 6 yrs and since starting it not had a period and was wondering if the metformin has messed m body up and now i am starting to have a period??

anone know if this could be the case?? can the metformin re-start my periods after all this time????

This happened to me a few weeks ago. I ended up bleeding for 2 weeks but the doctors wouldnt believe it was the Metformin. I have just had my meds changed to gliclazide and surprise surprise the bleeding stopped!!
I was on the depo injection too, and as you will know that stops you ovulating. The metformin is also used to treat polycystic ovaries and is used to start ovulating so you can imagine how confused your body is feeling!!

My doctors surgery are still saying that the Metformin dis not cause the bleeding but my local pharmacist laughed and said of course its the Metformin.
If I was you, I would ring up your doctors and see if they can change it. One of my worries, was would I still actually be covered if I had sex (not that I wanted to when I was bleeding!!) Also, you dont know what long term damage that could do to your body.

thank you louise ep thet helps loads i am glad i arnt the only one this has happened to!! yep i read the linfo lefelet that its used for polycystic ovaries which is what made me ask! i am at drs 2moz for bp check so will metion it to him and see whhat he says i dont want to go back to having perods as mine were always heavy and i used to get bad stomach cramps so dont want to go back to that!!

well after a visit to m drs today he confermed that i have indead got a water infection!!!

he alsoo now put me on Ramipril capsules
