Just recently I was told that if I don't look after myself, and what I eat, I could become diabetic with the type 2. Well, I have no idea what's going on, and I'm still trying to asimilate it  . I thought I was eating properly, but obiously not. My doctor has told me I need to lose some wheight, and cut on sugar, fat, and salt. All this came to light when in february I fell down on the ice :( , and broke my left hip, the following day I had to have an operation to have it repaired, so in the end I ended up with three screws, and I am only 43 years old.

I registered to Diabetes.co.uk searching for ideas and answers to my problem. At the moment I have changed my diet to salad, and tuna cos' I can't have just plain salads, and I think that having tuna with it, is a good source of proteines too. I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat beef or pork products, and just recently I have gonne off chicken too, so I mainly eat fish. I am also doing alot of exercise by walking 5 miles one day on, one day off.

Well that's all for now, and forget my spelling I am not English, I am Spanish (Tenerife), but I have been living in England 20 years.

Ps. I am learning quite abit from some of the posts so keep it up everyone.

Francis

Bye-Adios! :D

Hola Hierro,

Welcome to the Forum. I've recently been diagnosed too and have found this forum and discussions most helpful.

Sorry to hear about your hip - I hope it is fully mended now. Eating fish is good - I have started to eat more fish since being diagnosed so no problem there. Wish i could walk 5 miles every other day - I only managed 2 miles today but at least I'm trying!

Best wishes

Thank you Reepetite

Well about the walking, it's only a matter of taking it step by step (literally). It did hurt at the beginning, and started walking with a walking stick, but now it's a piece of cake. Anyway!, the doctor also recomemded me to do plenty of exercise, not just for my hip, but for the diabetes too, so there you go everyone...Keep on moving, it's good for you.

All the best to everyone

Ps. Reepetite, my hip is like new now. No heavy lifting for another 6 months, but I am feeling much better...Thank you!

Hi Francis and welcome to the forum.

Have a good look around the different sections and please ask if there's anything diabetes-related that we can help you with.
