Hello Everyone

Diagnosed last week with Type 2. Didn't think I'd need tablets as I'd lost a stone and gone on a healthy diet but have been given Metformin.
Had a week of feeling really unwell with such bad bloating right up to my breastbone. The trousers I took in a week ago because I lost my weight are too tight now, but hanging off my backside!
Got backache and feel generally off. To top that, last weel was the last week of my contract at work and I now join the ranks of the unemployed.

Slightly Miserable

Hi and welcome to the forum
Anything we can do to help, we will do. Between us, we can answer many questions
your symptoms could be caused by Metformin. It does mess up the guts in a lot of patients, but usually people adjust to it in a few weeks and it's a very safe medicine.
Could you let us know your "numbers"
ie, blood glucose and HbA1c and what you call a healthy diet.
meantime hunt round the forum, there's a load of valuable information around.

Hi cosmic69.
Welcome.

Hanadr has given you an excellent response, especially in relation to Metformin. Usually, most newly diagnosed get the option to try diet and lifestyle changes before medication. I would imagine your Bg numbers are high if you were put straight on Met. What dosage are you on ?

If you haven't got a blood glucose meter you need to get one and see if you can get the strips prescribed by your GP. As A Diabetic on medication for it then you will now get ALL your prescriptions for free. You just need an exemption card.

Have a good look around the forums and ask questions when you are ready.

Ken.

Hi Cosmic69

Just to let you know, I was diagnosed end of April and put straight on Morfartin same as yourself!.
It settles down after 1 to 2 weeks and now I get no side effects at all. I am doing pretty good after a few weeks of gut wrenching depression (It really does get better), and even though I was laid off two weeks ago by a company in administration with no redundancy or notice pay after 23 years service and 36 years of unbroken employment, I still feel great!!
All the best with your endeavours to gain control, which I just know you will do well with.

Steve.

Hello again

Slight improvement today, still bloated but cramps less. Feel a bit wooly headed, especially when at the Housing Dept claiming my housing benefit and on the phone to Jobseekers allowance. Have a bit of trouble with my feet as well. Last year I had a bad reaction to glue on the inside of new shoes and this got infected and my foot went black with infected blisters. I was sent to hospital and told i couldn't go home as I had blood in my urine. Eight days of hospital later and many months of tests have given me a confusing picture as to my diabetes and how it affected me. The condition on my foot has gone now but I can't feel properly any more on that foot. Did the undiagnosed diabetes have anything to do with the reaction I had? I'm 7.4 btw.
It's good to be in contact with people going through same stuff.
