I was diagnosed on Tuesday with type 1, went into hospital after an athsma attack and had no symptoms before that so it was a bit of shock. I'm now on novorapid 3 times a day & lantus too. I don't know that much about it really so any advice would be appreciated, also can someone tell me if its normal to be tired all the time & if this will go away? Thanks

Hi Jem

It is a nasty surprise at first but it does get easier - honest. :) I was diagnosed in April and have kind of got my head round it now and it is just generally something else I have to do each day. The tiredness will go when your Blood Glocose figures drop and settle - not sure how high you sugar was you were when in hospital. You are on the same meds as me - I think that is what they seem to start people on these days.

There is lots to learn and tips & tricks that you will pick up from here and books - I raided the library after a few weeks to learn more but the key thing is to pace yourself - I went in head first and was overwhelmed at the start! Most people on here have heaps of experience and they are always willing to help. Their advise may vary and may also not match what you are told by your diabetic nurse, it can be confusing at times and you will need to eventually work out what works for you as everyone differs this is not a one method suits suituation unfortunately.

One thing I will say is that it is managable and (although you may feel down about it at times ) there are worst things you can have and my life if not really much different now to then.

Best of luck and if you have any specific questions someone on here will always know the answer - I haven't seen them stumped yet!

Hallo namesake ... sorry you've been landed with this - never exactly the nicest of surprises.

The people here are FAB and if you have any questions, just ask them ;)

Me - type two diagnosed 1 month, controlled with diet and metformin, so I can't offer any sage advice regarding insulin, but these guys really know what they're talking about.

Keep chin up and keep in touch :)

Hi jem23,

There are better circumstances in which to meet, but I'm glad you could join us all the same!
The tiredness you describe will pass once you get good control of your blood sugar levels. It's a typical symptom of blood sugars being either too high or too low.
There are lots of great people on here, so please just fire away whenever you have a question - we're all in this together!

All the best,

fergus

Hey! Thanks for the replys. Was just kind of getting used to the 4 injections a day when I was told I'm now on a honeymoon period and only have to have 1 injection (4 units of lantus) per day now cause I kept having hypos before!! :? Think the doctors are getting a bit annoyed with me now as I keep asking if they maybe made a mistake & I don't have it after all!! But they just say that since my blood sugar was 24 when I was admitted to hospital its not likely to be anything else. Oh well, worth a try! Obviously it still sucks but I am getting my head round it a bit more now. Thanks again! xx
