Hi everyone New member go easy on me lol

Went Drs last week had what I now believe to to be a hypo or low blood sugar attack (not nice thought I was dying) however I was told to do blood test and go back to Drs he diagnosed me with T2 diabetes handed me a diet info and what not to eat sheet and said see you in another week ??? Then yesterday I had to call 999 cos I nearly passed out went hospital they said I'm ok so confused.
 
I'm not surprised you're confused Naz. Did the doc tell you what your test results were - presumably HbA1c?
Did they put you on medication? Did they actually explain anything to you?
From what you say it sounds like you've had very poor service and a frightening experience. Sadly you're not the first and probably won't be the last.
If you want to share a little more information perhaps somebody on here can offer some suggestions. But please remember we are not medics, that side of things MUST be tackled by a doctor.
I suggest you have a read through stuff on here, there is lots of it - at the very least you'll have some idea of what questions to ask your doctor next week.
A lady called Daisy will hopefully post some information soon to help you get started.

Thanks jo and Liam I been reading lots of stuff so far one thing has been learned don't let hour blood sugar drop too much however I only had 2 attacks In last 3 months going Drs on Monday got lot of questions going to ask them.
They never gave me no reading or anything you going to ask to be referd to a specialist or something or someone that can give some help.looking forward to what daisy writes thanks again guys feel good to know I'm not on my own.
Also called a ambulance Herts area 47mins didn't arrive ended up being rushed to hospital by my neighbour who you d me on the floor was disgusted at the service. Can laugh about it now though.
 
Hi @Princenaz

When you feel yourself going Hypo have something 'sugary' such as: glass of fresh orange juice, or jelly babies or anything else sweet and then have something to eat or bring forward your next meal. And always check your blood sugars.
(I carry with me Glucose Tablets and have packets of them in every room as I am on Insulin).
 
Thanks Liam going to go get some shopping I had and Lucozade but it took long time to kick in around 40 mins is that normal ?? Also I'm not no tabs or insulin.
for me it starts if I get to hungry or don't eat for too long also it happens randomly
 
If your only health issue is t2 and you are not on medication it is unlikely to be a hypo. Do you have a glucose meter to test levels? It may be a false hypo where if sugars have Bern high for a long time returning to normal levels feels odd.

Chocolate is not ideal as a snack.
Why not try unsalted nuts like Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts and Cashews.
Just don't skip or miss meals.
And drink plenty of water too, the more water you drink the better, it helps to stabilize glucose (sugar) in the bloodstream.
 
So sorry to hear of your difficulties and I hope the doctor can get to the bottom of this for you. Do you have any other health conditions?
 
Well I'm not sure I'm bk to Drs on Monday also I need to go buy a blood glucose checker but defo was a hypo as I only had small bowl of porridge felt like I'm going to pass out week and I felt a bit like I can't breath plus panic and it lasted around 20mins I drank Lucozade are chocolate followed by orange squash also by the time I got to hospital around 40 mine later they checked blood level and said it was 5.1 so I was confused I get hungry quite a lot and I urinat more than I used to also if I get to hungry as in I don't eat for more than 4hrs I start feeling anxious but not all the time so until I get more tests from Drs I'm still a bit confused
 
Tagging some people with experience of reactive hypoglycemia to see what they think as I would expect to be in double figures if I consumed what you did before going to the hospital. @Lamont D @Brunneria
 
this does not sound right. as an untreated diabetic your bg should have been higher than 5.1. i would have a read of this and question your gp something is not right https://www.hormone.org/diseases-and-conditions/diabetes/non-diabetic-hypoglycemia i would be very interested in your hba1c test result. without medication a diabetic should not be having hypos. hypers yes but at5.1 post Lucozade are chocolate followed by orange squash. it should have spiked your bloods higher than that. there are conditions that cause the over production of insulin. which could cause it.

Chocolate isn't a good choice if you are genuinely hypo because it contains a lot of fat which slows down the absorption of the sugar. For a hypo (low blood sugar) jelly babies are good, and also dextrose/glucose tablets. However, if it was a hyper (high blood sugars) then this would be completely the wrong treatment. You need to know.

You really need to know what all your test results were, and on what basis your doctor diagnosed you as T2. Please ask him for a print out of your test results. You can then see which tests you had and what the results were, and be able to analyse them yourself - with help from us if you need help understanding them. Do make sure you get hold of a blood glucose meter and plenty of test strips. You can then see what is happening, and when. Keeping a food diary and recording your levels alongside the food will help, especially if you add some notes about it.

If your episodes were low blood sugar ones, it implies a possibility of reactive hypoglycaemia. There is a sub forum on this condition that you may find interesting. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/reactive-hypoglycemia.70/
 
Wow thank you all so much I'm not impressed with the Drs going to chill out take it easy till Monday till I can see what's what will update but so far you guys are more helpfull than my gp he just wants to crack on to the next patient

@Princenaz, base on no real information about you, it sounds like your blood glucose increases greatly when you eat, your body then produces too much insulin, your blood glucose then drops to a very low level and sometime later your liver releases glucose. So that by the time the medics do their tests, the results look OK.

If you have access to a blood glucose meter and lots of test strips, there is an easy to way find out if I am right.
  • Test your BG
  • Eat a meal that is normal for you
  • Then test your BG every 15 minutes for the next 5 hours. (remain sitting and relaxed while doing this.)
  • Plot the results on a graph (most meters have a memory if so you don't need to write to readings and times as you do them, but check you can access the memory before depending on it.)
Post this graph the graph on here as lots of us knows what a BG graph looks like for the diffeernt type of diabetes.
