Hi everyone

I was a member on here before but I forgot my username so I have rejoined under a new username.

I am Alison and I was diagnosed with both diabetes and underactive thyroid in March 2010.

Looking forward to getting to know some of you and know what we all are going through.

Hi Alison

Welcome back to the forum :)

Thank you didie and shop.

Wow shop were they both diagnosed at the same time?

I myself went because I thought I had an underactive thyroid only but when it came back as diabetes as well, I was floored. :(

Hiya Alison

No they weren't I was originaly ill about 11 yrs ago and found out I had an overactive thyroid. I was on medication for that then was ok for a year! then it came back so then I was given radio iodine treatment. Consequently went underactive! I went from being 6 st ( due to over active thyroid) To 10 stone! ( My original weight was 7 stn was always being asked if I was anorexic :( , but I loved my food and just ate what I wanted and never put on weight. I had a baby a couple of years after 10lbs :o . Just before my little ones 1st birthday I found out I was T1...........Bit of a rollercoaster. Gosh It must have been awfull to have found out about both at the same time. Do you have your thyroid sorted now?............BTW when I said I was a newbie I meant to the forum. I have only started carb counting recently so do feel like I am learning all over again. In the short time on here I have found that people are really helpful and supportive.... :)

Hi shop

I do feel a lot better with my thyroid now. I was shocked that it could deteriorate so quickly with levels.

It was a shock as only expecting thyroid problem as my lovely family were all on at me to go and get myself checked as all my cousins and aunts on my mum's side have it and they could see it in me.

Sorry I thought you were a newbie to both.

I feel as though I am learning again too. When I joined before I found the people on here very helpful and supportive but lost the website off my computer so hence I forgot my log in details lol.

Thank you as well for the welcome noblehead.

Alison,

At least I was able to get my head round thyroid before had diabetes to think about. I know what you mean about families though my mother in law and her sister have thyroid probs and after I found out, my Auntie found out she was underactive too!! Good luck and I am sure you'll get sorted ...xxx :)

Lucy.
