Nice to be here and to see such useful information and views
I've been a type1 since I was nine yerars old and unfortunately thats 44 and a half years. I did the usual teenage things and denied I had any condition, drank lots, ate loads and tested about once a month! It was urine testing in those days so almost impossible to do unless you were locked in your bathroom at home! Any way I suffered a fair bit but when I was in my twenties I decided that I wanted to live past being thirty so I started to take care of myself.
I have one piece of news that I'm sure will shock some and cause others to think that I'm pulling their leg but I swear to you I'm not. Two years ago I got remarried to a lovely girl who has two kids, they were seven abnd nine then but are eight and eleven now. Any way in the Summer we go to a Christain festival called New Wine. I wasn't that keen because I'd never been to anything like that AND it involved camping for a week! While we were there I got into it all and really enjoyed it and one early evening my step son came back from his meeting/club and said that they had all prayed for things to happen that they thought needed help. I was interested and asked what he had prayed for. Imagine my shock when he told me that he had prayed for my diabetes to get better! I have to admit that I thought this was really sweet but secretly I thought that I wished he had picked on a subject that was a bit more likely to show a result. Oh Ye of little faith! That evening I had my usual carbs and my usual Novo Rapid insulin but in the night the ambulance had to be called because my BS was showing LO and I couldn't be woken up and made to cooperate.
To cut a long story short I'm now taking approximately half of the Novorapid I used to take and half of the overnight Levemir. My consultant can't exoplain it although I haven't mentioned the prayer bit to him and he just says keep it up because I'm doing so well. I used to suffer from intermittent ED but that is now resolved and I did have a frozen shoulder and some loss of nerve feeling in my feet but again this is all resolved without medical intervention.
Im a happy bunny and please dont think I'm trying to convert anyone to becoming a Christian because I'm not, I just want to let you know about this fantastic change in my life. Oh and my wife and step kids are a fantastic change in my life to ha ha.
