Hi everyone

I was originally diagnosed as impaired glucose tolerance about 3 years ago.
I've been a type 2 Diabetic for about a year now - not so well controlled as I think I'm still in a denial phase.
Finally getting to the stage where I think I need to start doing something about it hence I'm here :)

Have been reading through the forums since my first post this morning and have to confess I'm finding it a bit scary and depressing ( not the forums - more how little I know and how much I have to learn) still, I'll do my best
ty for your support I shall probably need it over the coming months.

Hi Aardrgn,

Just follow Trinkwasser's advice and you won't go far wrong. Nobody expects you to be a diabetes expert, but to control it, instead of it controlling you, you do need to become an expert in what works for you and what doesn't. Unfortunately we can't tell you what that is because everyone is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Had a brief look at the loraldiabetes site so far and found it very interesting ty.
Have made my start by cutting out 'white foodstuffs' as much as possible ( haven't eaten a fridge at all today  ) instead of my usual couple of sandwiches throughout the day I've got oatcakes and cheese - I'm aimimg to get in the success stories forum :)

I have to say that this site is just awesome :D

Hi Aadrgon. Good to meet you. I have to say that I agree whole heartedly with you that this site is awesome. There are SSSOOOOOO many kind really helpful people here. No one ever seems to mind how many questions you ask or how trivial or silly they may appear. Little queries are enormous queries to the person asking them and you can learn so much from the answers.
I've managed to cut out bread, potatoes, pasta and rice apart from the odd treat like a few, home cooked, chips with bacon and egg of course. Couldn't ever imagine how I could survive but I have. Diabetes does change your entire outlook on life but in a good way as you are far more concious of what you put into your body and how you treat it,eg lots of exercise. Early days yet though for me . I wish you well.
