Hi there. Just found out this week when I got my blood tests that I am type 2. Everyone seems surprised that I have taken it in my stride. Have been told that for now all I need is to change my diet and do more excercise. As I am really overweight, this is a positive step to losing weight - I would love to know how others reacted when they found out? I am wondering if it's not really hit me yet, and that I am still in shock? Love to know your thoughts. Also - the nurse has told me to have porridge for breakfast or shredded wheat. I can just about stomach porridge I think, but do you know what cereals are allowed? The one thing I will miss is my daily bowl of cornflakes - is there anything similar that is OK to eat?

Hi Lindy -lou welcome to the forum. I eat weetabix in the morning, just one, tried shredded wheat[[[shudder]]]! Some of the other members would rather eat a cooked breakfast as it is less carbs.I wasn't that fazed by my diagnosis either then one day ,after testing in the morning, it did hit me,Oh yes I really am diabetic!!I can take control of it but I can't change the diagnosis ,it is what it is so I just get on with it.You will find heaps of good tips and info on this board.

Thanks for the welcome sugarless sue. I think I may have to suffer the porridge! Its all change - but like your wise words, it is what it is, so I too will just have to get on with it. Looking forward to finding my way round the board.
