Hi. My Name is Jey and I have been type 2 for about 3 years now.
I take
6 Metformin
2 Gliclazide

per Day

I was wondering about all the talk about low calorie diets "rebooting" your system and "curing" diabetizes.

I am I guess only sort of type 2 as mother was type 1 in her later years.

I served 22 years in the army and 25 years after that mainly as a HGV1 driver.

Never been a heavy drinker or smoker and have been on ecigs for the last 3 years.

Never been a big person. and always eaten reasonably well

Welcome Jey, have a good read around and ask any questions - there's a lot of good support and advice on here.

Hi Jey, I think what you mean is putting your diabetes into remission which, as I understand it is, keeping your blood sugar levels in the non diabetic range, which is what I am trying to do. I assume you check your blood with a meter? I was diagnosed last November and much of the time I am in the non diabetic range but do have spikes especially when I try a new food, so not quite there yet! I don't count calories but by going low carb that is what is working for me. This forum has a vast amount of advice and it what I follow.

Nice day today here in Devon, isn't it?;)

Hi. There is a bit of nonsense fairly often about diabetes in the press. I can't see any science behind 'rebooting' diabetes. If you adopt a low-carb diet then you are taking the best dietary approach to diabetes. Those who are overweight T2s having the right diet can cause their diabetes to go into remission and they can often have near normal blood sugar as any insulin resistance fades. I get the impression you aren't particularly overweight? It's possible bearing in mind your Mother's T1 that you may be more T1 than T2 i.e. your islet cells may be failing rather than having excessive insulin resistance. I would have a low carb diet and see how your weight and blood sugar respond. If over the coming months your blood sugar doesn't respond well enough then that could imply Late onset T1 which quite a few of us have and then the only solution is the right medication e.g. Gliclazide then insulin. With a bit of luck you will respond adequately with the right diet but if not I'm afraid medication can't be avoided but it's not a real problem.

Hello and welcome to the forum Jey. I'm sure some other type 2's will be along to say hello and with some help, advice and support. Take care
