Hi,

My son has been experiencing various symptoms lately which I have gone to the doctor about. He is almost 12 and slightly overweight for his age. Over the last year on and off he has been getting the following:-

Headaches
Nausea
Lightheaded ness
Heart burn
Joint aches and pains
Tinnitus
Tummy pains
Itchy bottom!
Constant hunger
Horizontal ridges on his nails
Feeling cold

I have googled all the symptoms and notice they can all be a sign of diabetes.

I have not noticed him needing the loo a lot or feeling thirsty though

The doctor has sent him for a blood test to check glucose and thyroid and when I called to see if the results were in I was told to book a “non urgent” appointment

Does anyone of older children recognise any of these in their child? Is it likely to be Tyoe 1 or 2 or even pre diabetes ?

I can’t think why the doctor would say it’s non urgent though?

I have to wait a week to see her and am worrying!

Thank you

Caroline

We cannot diagnose, I'm afraid. The list of symptoms you have noted could be those of many conditions. The only thing you can do is see the GP for the test results and if negative for Diabetes/Thyroid conditions the I'm sure the doc will do further investigations. I am not familiar with Thyroid conditions so hang on for those members who have the condition to post more info. Good luck, my fingers are crossed for your lad.
