Hi I'm New Here

Hi everybody! I'm new to these forums. I was diagnosed with hereditary type 2 diabetes last week.
Hello John, and welcome!

Sorry about the diagnosis. And you don't need the disclaimer here, as most people in this place know T2 is almost per definition hereditary, except when brought on by medication like statins or steroids. ;) How are you faring? Coping alright? Any questions?
Jo

Welcome to the forum @John_73. I think my T2 is largely hereditary, my mother was T2 too.
It's still a shock when you get that diagnosis though, even if you had been kind of expecting it, as I was.
It takes a bit of time to get your head around it all, but you will get a lot of good advice and support on here. Just ask anything you want to.

Hi. I am Shashi aged 68 years. I had diagnosed with T2 in the year 2002. Eversince I am on oral medication. It started with 500 mg twice a day to 500mg in the morning and 500 mg GP2 in the evening. Meanwhile I found that keeping my diet, exercises etc in the same fashion, my Sugar levels frequently changes to below normal to as high as 150 to 180 in the morning Fasting and 100 to 200 in the afternoon i.e. PP. I was first diagnosed as stress related T2 but even after retirement and peaceful life, I continue to have above levels of Blood sugars. How shall I look towards this.

Hello and welcome,

As previous posters have said type 2 is largely hereditary and you will find on this site has a lot of information and support.

Have you to a meter so you can test your levels? Your meter is key to making decisions that will lower your levels. Only by testing can you really know what effect food has on your levels.

Most peop[le on here find the best way to control their levels is to drastically reduce the amount of carbohydrates they eat. Not just the sugars all carbs. How much people eat varies. I'm one of the very low carbs so eat less than 20 grams a day. This brought my levels back down to non-diabetic levels in less than 3 months. Others take a more restrained view and have maybe 100 grams of carbs a day Whichever way you try eating to the meter is key.

Welcome and feel free to ask any questions you like

Hello @Shashi Pune ,

Welcome. While stress can increase bloodsugars, and can make T2 show up a little earlier than it would have without additional stress, you basically had a genetic predisposition to get it. Being stress-less will help a little, but it won't reverse your T2, sorry. :( So you will need to alter your diet a little if the medication isn't cutting it. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ might set you on the right path, but all in all, it's not hopeless.

Good luck,
Jo
