Hi I'm Cathy, thought I'd introduce myself. Well, am in my 40's, married 2 kids (11 and almost 18). Have been insulin dependant diabetic for 36 years (yey me!). Am now on the DAFNE regime which is the best thing I have ever done, wish I'd done it years ago.
I was never that well controlled when younger I must say. I got better control when I had my kids but it was always a bit lax. My control became much better when I started DAFNE. I actually tested my blood sugar! And now I test EVERY day, and often. Lack of testing was previously my thing, I rarely tested.
I have become much more sensible and happier with my diabetes. For the last 5 years I have been a committee member on my local diabetes support group and I did the Diabetes 3D course in Birmingham and helped run the 3D meetings with our group.
I gave up the voluntary work this last year as I have been working full time and between that the house and the kids (and hubby!), I don't have as much spare time now.
I am an Ophthalmic Technician at my local hospital. I go line dancing twice a week and I am currently trying to lose a flipping stubborn 25 lbs or so.
I have background retinopathy and am waiting to hear whether I may need some laser on one eye (not had this before). Working in an eye department has it benefits!
I have started using the log on this site to record my blood glucose levels etc (which I already do in a book but like the look of this online one).
Anyway HI to everyone! XCathy
