If you can manage on just basal that's great, but if it gets to the stage where your numbers are going up when you eat then insist on bolus too. I was dx at 43 out of the blue. They tried to treat me as type 2 for a fortnight and nearly killed me!
I thought I would give an update.
I saw the diabetic nurse last week and I am on basal bolus insulin. Basal morning and night then bolus before each meal. My levels have come down and I can eat better which is great. It has just taken a while to get the quantity of insulin right for me. I started back in the gym (I go in the evenings before a meal so no quick insulin left) , managed 35mins running but it was hard. I am going to start slow and build up.
