Hi, new to this

My son is type 1, newly diagnosed. He has got a cold and is hot n sweaty, his blood sugars are quite high but ketones are low(phew), is this normal if they have a cold? We still giving insulin and drinking water and treating it as normal, thank u .x

High levels when ill is quite common and as long as ketones remain low is not a problem. Keep testing regularly and try not to worry too much. Hope he gets better soon.

as already said this is quite common, ask your diabetic nurse for sick day rules

Hi I am suffering from a cold at the moment first time since being diagnosed with diabetes in 2005. My blood sugars have been high for the past few days . my ketones have been between 0.1 - 0.2. It seemed no matter what I do I can not get my sugars down. Dialled 111 for advice and was so glad they were no help at all. Glad to be here and find out it is normal for it to be high when you are ill.
