Hi Everyone.

Just wanted to say hello, this is my first post on here and can see this board helping me a lot.

I was first diagnosed as type 1 towards the end of last summer. Was all a bit strange and new as id never even really heard much about Diabetes. No one in my family had ever had it or any friends but after talking to about seems like im not the only person in the world. Hardest part to deal with was my lifestyle, i was 24 at the time (now 25) use to go out drinking twice a weekend for most of the night. Iv started to get into bad ways again and tbh gone into denial about the levels thinking it doesnt matter if I go high, only low. I went through a long period of only testing me levels once every 2 weeks. Came to a point where I had such a bag hangover just thought to myself theres no point in doing this anymore. I had also lost all of the hairs in my legs, they have come back since I've stopped drinking. The hardest part is saying no to friends when going out for drinks. I know you dont always have to drink, but when your on a lads night out its hard to stick to diet coke all night.
Iv got back on track a little now, haven't drank for 6 weeks and even went to doctors to mention what had happened. They now put me on a new type of insulin. Rapid and Levemir (Novomix before).
Although just tested my levels this morning and up at 27. I ate 3 pieces of toast this morning for breakfast and only drank water. Could this be the new insulin not working?
Look forward to hearing some of your experiences in the future.

Hi Ashley
It takes a few days for the insulin to sort itself out so don't worry to much, just keep regular checks on your sugar levels if they continue to stay high after a few days you may need to increase your dose. I'm glad to hear that you have sorted yourself out, I got diagnosed Type 1 when i was 13 and when you are that young you don't really understand what its all about so by the time i was 18 i did'nt really bother either i never done a blood test just injected twice a day ate what i wanted just thought it did'nt matter i wanted to be like my mates.
But then i meet my Husband and he realised after a while how serious diabetes was and made me have regular blood tests and regular checks ups.
Keep at it it will sort itself out.
