I was diagnosed type 2 around a month ago.
Went for a blood pressure test, wanted my cholestrol checked so i went for a fasting blood blood test.
Was told i was diabetic, no i wasnt, after a further blood test yes i was.
I was in denial and going to do a runner, just as well i took my partner who is a midwife and told me to calm down.
My blood glucose was 18 and after a fortnight i got a meter and it was around 6 and 7 on consecutive mondays.
Tested first thing in the morning as it rises as you eat, told people test 1 hour before a meal and two hours after to see what foods give them blood sugar spikes.
I take it as a wake up call if i want to be in good health and live to 90.
Life style changes have to be made , i.e exercise, eating habits, loosing weight, looking after my feet etc.
Advice i got from the doctor was sugar was my enemy stay away from beans and eat bread, pasta, rice etc.
Was also told to have a treat on a sunday or for weddings birthdays etc, after that advice was nil.
Went straight on the net and learned loads, too much to take in.
I am on Metoformin 200mg a day.
When you come on here or diabetics forum advice is exercise, stay off carbs eg, bread, rice, pasta as they all turn to sugar.
Cerial is bad especially oatmeal which gave me diarohea when on metoformin and when out jogging could prove nasty.
On another thread ham and eggs are good for your diet and i will be on them this morning.
Hardest thing is loosing weight so i think i will have to go on a low carb diet as nothing else is working, used to jog for a fortnight till i hurt something in the sole of my foot and can not run so i will have to put new brakes on my bicycle and use that.
Diabetes is a huge learning curve with overwelming information to learn as my first priority is loosing weight which is the battle i am loosing fast.
See the doc in 2 months so got till then to sort it out.
Got a letter today for a diet retinopathy screening service i have to attend in may to check my eyesight as diabetes can damage to the blood vessels in your eyes and sometimes my eyesight went fuzzy which i put down to old age.
