Hi there, was diagnosed just over a week ago, not entirely sure what is going on right now as my GP has thoroughly confused me but I think it is type 1.5 or LADA.

Started on Metformin, got IBS so that didn't agree with me so switched to gliclazide. Levels coming down nicely, they are pleased with the results in just one week but I am a hard task master and nothing other than 4 - 7 will do!!

I am adopted but both my adoptive parents are type 2 so I am well versed on diabetes in general. We eat a good diet and the only thing I can be critical about is my carb intake so working on low GI now. Patrick Holford's Low GL Diet Bible just landed on doorstep courtesy of Amazon so some light or, er, heavy reading coming up!

I am totally gutted at this diagnosis, very upset, angry and frustrated by it. How can I have a partner of normal weight who eats chocolate and drinks coke like it is going out of fashion with normal blood sugar levels, whilst mine are stupidly high?

Had a weight problem since I was a child, always been sporty though and played club tennis and badminton into my adulthood too. Nothing made me lose weight though.

Anyway, guess I have joined this club for life now and assume acceptance that I am here will happen one day?

hya ali and welcome to the forum,
i understand how your feeling, i think most of us feel that at some stage :? i was really peed off on diagnosis of type 1 as ive enough health probs already and im the only diabetic i knew, this forum learnt me loads so stick around :D

Hi Totsy, thanks for replying. Yes I have other problems too including arthritis in my knee and a prolapsed disc, sigh. I really didn't need any more cr*p right now!

Well had a review with my Doc and he is still pleased with progress, now getting some readings pre brekkie and evening meal of just over 7 so massive improvement although still a way to go yet. That's after 2 1/2 weeks of meds though so not long.

Thanks Totsy, it is all pretty daunting isn't it. I had my lowest reading yet this morning, 6.4, so I am well chuffed.

Still trying to get my head around what to eat especially lunches. Tending to eat either a granary bread sandwich, pumpkin seed ryvitas with hummous or wholewheat crispbreads etc. Pretty much anything other than white bread really! Also carrot batons dipped in hummous. I am also used to eating grapes mid morning or else melon but not sure how these will affect my levels so must do some post food tests to see as that is the only way I guess!

Ali

testing is the only way to find out, congrats on this mornings numbers :D

Dire reading tonight, 12.9 before having tea! I do have an ear infection though and I think I have read that sometimes if you aren't feeling well your sugar levels can be out of kilter? Know anything about that anybody?

Perfectly correct.......any illness, stress, infection etc can interfere with your Bg readings, up or down. If the levels are still that high after you are better then you need to look further into what is causing it.

Only been taking Gliclazide for 3 weeks but for the last week or so my pre brekkie and evening meal readings have been in single figures so I think this is a blip. But I will of course look for any trends once I feel better and seek advice accordingly.

Thanks for replying.

Ali

dont worry about a blip, i still get them now and again after 6 yrs :D

Thanks Totsy, the ear infection was making me feel very poorly the last couple of days. I was all hot one minute and shivery the next so I guess it was this affecting my readings. This morning's was 6.2 so be interesting to see what this evening's reads.
