Hi - I've just discovered this website and I'm totally overwhelmed at the amount of useful info on here, not to mention finding a forum!

My name is Elaine, I live in the Isle of Man, married with two teenage children AND I have had Type 1 diabetes for 20 years!

I wear an insulin pump - which delivered an effective first dose after changing its set last evening - then enigmatically stopped delivering any overnight, so I woke up this morning with a BG of 23.6 after having taken 'correcting' doses overnight ... Of course this morning I took a pen injection and changed the set again - and discovered that the canula had somehow got a kink so wasn't delivering.

Diabetes team here were a fantastic support - despite having type 1 for 20years and thinking I know how to manage everything - with such high BG and ketones kicking in, I was amazed at how vulnerable and wobbly I did feel! All getting back to normal, yet again : )

Looking forward to learning more and sharing. (I'm not used to forums)
Best wishes to all - Elaine.

Welcome @Lainee369 :)

I have a pump too. I love it! It's incredibly annoying when you get a set problem like that (always seems to happen at night too) I hope your blood sugars behave today :)

Check out the Type 1 section here and the Pump section. Don't worry about not being used to forums. There are plenty of friendly people here if you need any help :)

Hi @Lainee369
welcome to the forum :)

the website and the forum are great.
I feel as though I am still learning after 44 years type 1.

Hi Elaine and welcome to the forum :)

Experiencing such high bg levels does shake you up but pleased you found the cause of the problem, hopefully by now your bg levels are back to normal and holding steady.

The Isle of Man is a beautiful place and had the pleasure of visiting your island in the early 80's to watch the TT Races, best wishes and look forward to your contribution here.

Agree the site is ab fab! I was diagnosed in march and given a print out the doctor did via Google which explained the difference between t1 and t2... not helpful. I am still waiting for my 'education sessions' and the only info I have has been taken from this site.
