The normal advice, well at least what my DN told me, is to go somewhere between 5 & 7 mmol but it does depend on overnight liver dumps of glucose so don't be too worried about the early morning fasting reading

Just as I've read on here, my night BG readings are lower than my morning. For me this is regardless of when my "morning" or "night" actually are because I am not on a normal day/night schedule. The BG readings has to do with when the body has been sleeping vs. when it wakes up. The "liver-dump" reason makes sense for why the numbers are higher in the morning (when most people wake up).
