Probably means rich food and maybe alcohol over the Christmas period have put up your liver enzymes. You and the rest of the country!!Try not to worry about that. Listen to what the nurse tells you on monday and takes notes if you are bad at remembering.

hi all just got back from seeing the nurse my HbA1c was 7.7 is this high told to eat healthy and try to do more physical activity to see if i can get it down she also said my blood pressure was borderline at 130/85 she said she would not go into to much of the diabetes as i'm at the diabetic clinic next week and they will do all that

Sami, I'm not surprised your weight went up. Wine gums and boiled sweets are pure suger and very little else. Exercise will certainly reduce your HBA1C, but the biggest change to your HBA1C will be if you cut out all sweets completely. I know this is easier said than done because sugar is actually addictive. That's why the manufacturers use it - to get you hooked.

i have cut out all chocolate and sweets since i found out the nurse weighed me today and i have last 5lb in the last week i find i need some thing sweet after my tea or i get very adutated and cant sit still untill ive had some thing (i love my puddings )so i have brought some sugar free lollies ive had 1 moist nights and this has stopped me craving puddings and chocolate now just need to keep it up

Sami...understand your sweet tooth completely. Good luck at teh diabetic clinic, hope tha they can help you with the diet and things.
I had teh slightly borderline liver result once...I can't remember the reason, but teh good news was that my next result was OK.

I would write down a list of question for your clinic appointment, as it is so difficult not to get completely sidetracked with all the info theygive you...and then realise that you have forgotten to ask that important question!!

Hi Sami

About a year ago my liver test showed up high ferritin levels - 600 (normal is 200-300). After several hospital visits they discharged me saying that as it stayed at the same level and I wasn't having any adverse effects it couldn't be anything to worry about. No-one could answer why the level was so high. I did worry for quite a while but not much I could do about it - would have been nice to know the reason for the high level.

Regards Val

Hi Sue

Have had a quick look at the link. Most is too complex for me to understand but it does say that red meat can be a cause and I do eat a fair amount of red meat. When I went to the hospital the consultant didn't think this would be the problem but he was more interested in asking me every time how much alcohol I consumed. He really didn't believe me when I said that I rarely drank alcohol. I was pleased that haemochromotosis was ruled out as that would have meant twice a week hospital visits for at least a year.

I'm going to cut down on the red meat and ask the doctor to check my ferritin levels when she does my annual checks.

Thanks Val

Are you aware that carbohydrates such as bread (particularly white), pasta, potatoes and rice are nearly as bad for you as sugary things? Have a look at http://www.diabetic-talk.org/jennifer.htm which will put things into perspective, despite the often dismal advice from UK NHS dietitians.

My mate swears by frozen grapes to get her sweet fix.
They apparently take an age to suck to death and she finds one or two grapes are all she needs.
You have to be a tad on the odd side to live in East Anglia :D
