Hi

Hi Everyone

I was diagnosed yesterday and am feeling really down about it. I guess I am going to have to get used to being careful about what I eat. That 3 foot long box of Jaffa Cakes is going to take an awful long time to eat if I am only allowed a treat from time to time.

There is lots of good stuff on this website I am glad I have found it quickly.

Hi David and welcome to the forum :) I'm sorry about your diagnosis and sorry about the jaffa cakes  You will have to learn a lot of things and this is the best place to do it. Have a good read and then ask any questions you like - there is always someone here who will know the answer. Here is some basic information the Forum Monitors give to newly diagnosed diabetics - I hope you will find it useful:

Welcome David you have done well to find this forum it has helped me and I am very glad I found this forum the advice is very sensible and it is good to have people who have DB themselves to answer any questions.

Hi Daisy

Thanks for the reply. I had read that post and it is helpful. I also liked the one about what questions to ask at your first meeting with the diabetes Nurse. Unfortunately, the first appointment I can get with the one at my GP is 21 Feb. I am not too happy about this and managed to get the GP to agree to see me next week to tell me more about the medical side of diabetes. I am still not too happy but I am not sure there is much more that I can do.

Hi again David - I hope all goes well at your appointment next week and you find out all you would like to know from your GP. You probably are in a state of shock at the moment but it's not so bad and you will get used to it quickly :)
