Hello everyone!!
I have been looking around this site for a little while now, loads of really useful info so congrats on that!
So I decided to join today and get involved. This also coincided with a letter I got today, I'm going on a pump in January! Can't wait now that I have had confirmation.
A bit of background now, I was diagnosed in Feb 2010 when I was over in England at university and was really lucky to have a great consultant there who sorted me out and got me started on two doses of Insulatard a day, just to get me through the honeymoon period and get my levels fairly stable. Moved on to MDI with Lantus and Novorapid last November as control was slipping and HbA1C going up. This suited me for a while, but I must confess I let go quite a bit, wasn;t really sure about changing, doses/ratios etc.
I have now come back home to Northern Ireland to do another degree and once again have a great team at the hospital, as well as my GP! Not long after going to my first clinic (Aug 2011) where I asked about pumps and was told that I would be required to go on a carb counting course before even being considered but it could take quite a while, but only a month later I was offered a place on a DAFNE course! I can't sing it's praises enough, taught me loads and my control is getting better. And then to top it all off I got a letter saying I am starting on a pump in January, pretty sure it will be the Accu Chek Combo as this was the only one they did when I last asked. So I hope I havn't made you fall asleep and look forward to chatting soon!
