Hi thought I would introduce myself as I have lurked for a while and have now registered on the forum.

I'm Rich (in name only :( )T1, diagnosed in 1996, currently on Novorapid and Levemir.

After 15 years of bowling along quite comfortably with my diabetes, with good results I'm having a few issues with it.

Like most diabetics I was advised carbs etc and this hasn't really been a problem until the last few months when I got a high hba1c reading, so I have been testing, testing and more testing.

My main problem is mornings, historically my BG are slightly high 7 or 8 but by mid mornings were back into 5 - 6. Now they spike mid morning and I'm getting frustrated. It would appear my body won't tolerate any carbs in the morning, from pre breakfast readings of say 6.5 I have had spikes up to 16, 2 hours after eating.

My job involves working in clients offices, sites etc so traditionally I have taken cereal, shredded wheat, weetabix or a couple of slices of bread to toast to eat when I arrive at the offices at 8:30 as I can't stomach any food till a couple of hours after I have woken. I'm not aware that I'm wheat intolerant, no bloating etc but obvious that I need to cut carbs in the morning. I have done tests and sure that my basal, Levemir, dose is correct.

So I'm looking for any suggestions of a low carb breakfast, easily portable and can be prepared / made in sometimes basic conditions. A low carb shake would appear to be an option as it would keep me full as eggs and bacon leaves me so hungry after a few hours and I would appreciate any advice on this.

Just to complicate matters my levels also drop off a cliff about 4:00 in the afternoon so any snack options also great fully received.

Sorry to ramble on in my first post and hope to chat to some of you soon.

Rich

Hi Rich! I'm not a type 1, but for low carb "portable" brekkies, how about hard boiled egg in the shell, cold sausages,(high meat content ones obviously), ham, tomato etc? All can be prepared the night before. A low-carb yoghurt if you're more that way disposed? Or be really continental with cheeses, cold meats etc.

Hi and thank you for the tips and the welcome

The hard boiled egg is a great suggestion, hadn't thought of that and would fill me up :D
