Hi, I was diagnosed on Friday and put on Metformin, one a day fro 2 days, then 2 a day, then 3 a day. it has given me bad tummy cramps and the runs, I am concerned about upping it to 2 a day, as I feel bad on just 1. Any advice please ?
 
Hello and welcome sandy-j. Sorry to hear of your problems, I know a lot of members have had similar side effects on Metformin, so hopefully a type 2 will be along to help you out. Take care.
 
Hi and welcome. metformin can upset your tummy but it doesn't last more than a week or three normally. If it continues you can ask your GP for the slow release version, which is supposed to be more gentle. Sorry I can't be of more use as I don't take any medication myself, just wanted to say Hello and Welcome.

Hi Sandy-j,

Yes, I got this too, but it soon passes (excuse the pun!).

Gastric distress is common with Metformin and your body soon gets used to it and adjusts itself.
