Hidden Sugars

I am now (not before time) taking my type 2 seriously and when in the supermarket I look at all products for hidden sugars, my question is this, if a product is listed as only having 1% sugar is it safe for me to eat.

Thanks Bob

I've gotta say bob it's carbs rather than sugars you should worry about. From what I understand all carbs turn to sugar in the body some slowly some quickly. If you wanna try something new test before you eat then an hour and 2 hours after to see how high your peak is. Everybody will react to stuff differently just see what's good for you.

My next thing was to cut down on carbs, I will bring this forward and start as of now, thanks for the advice

With ingredients, my wife tells me, that the ingredients at the top of the list are the main ingredients and lesser further down.

Total carbs at a sitting (inc sugars) are what sends us high.

I would agree with the others, learn to start checking the back of packets for total carbs, rather than just the sugar levels. I did find one ready meal that was showing 'green' for sugar, I think it contained less than 1g of sugar, but when i checked the back it was over 70g of total carbs. While ready meals aren't ideal they are useful as a quick answer after a hard day at work, I have found some that are as low as 35g, so well within my limits although still too high for others. You need to find out how much you can tolerate.
