HIGH 3 days in a row

I am on the omnipod and having no problems up until the last few days where I have been HIGH around about this time of day and I have changed my pod each time and still having issues... Could it be a dodgy batch of pods? Just checked this current one and the sticky stuff is wet with insulin... Sigh getting fed up!!

Hi, Nicola, I'm not a pumper, but the bit in your post about the sticky stuff being wet with insulin rang some bells about something I read a while back about "insulin tunneling", where it seeps back up the outer surface of the cannula to the skin.

Couple of links, the second one is an American site where omnipodders discuss the issue - they chuck some ideas around to do with whether bolus amount affects it.

Hope you are feeling better now! Nothing worse than the tech failing and HI appearing on the test.
 
Hi @ohitsnicola, Those high BSLs are really horrible and it seems that cannula problems are the bane of all pumpers at times. I have recently had 3 cannula leaks or bends in 10 days. See "needle port troubles" on the Pump forum.
Living in Adelaide with a tubey pump ( where summer time temperatures can max at 40 degrees C) I have just started using metal cannulas. The first one leaked on day 2, so I am still to be convinced they are the answer.
I have had better success with using a 'fatter' part of my tummy and today, with having to walk in the city with predicted 33 degree C maximum, I will be trialling use of some cold gel packs around the adhesive patch to see if less sweating helps to reduce risk of the adhesive patch lifting and maybe making the 'tunnelling' worse or if the cold somehow makes the skin firmer, less stretchy. I shall let you know how I fare !!
Of course the cold might cause the adhesive patch to get soggy and then lift so there is always a catch to any 'brilliant' idea !!:):):banghead::banghead::D:D
