Hi
Got up this morning & was 5.5 had 2 eggs for breakfast, didn't really want lunch, numbers were fine (6.2) anyway had a few Camp coffees this afternoon, did a bm just now & numbers upto 21.1!!shocked that had risen this much. Changed my set now & have put TBR upto 130% for 1 hour
I really like Camp coffee, obviously know it has sugar in but don't want to not have it

Would a corrective bolus of been a better option. Basal is not meant to be used to correct meals our sugar that has been eaten/drank.

Yes I did give corrective bolus & put TBR on too as it was so high!
Felt pretty rubbish yesterday, will not be having anymore Camp coffee
Feel like I need to detox myself, feeling tired & lethargic this am,drinking plenty of water & hopefully be feeling alright. Low this am but bm was 6 just now

Hello Jess

I have found at times even with basal testing an d getting all my basal rates sorted, my bg levels stay stable for about 5 or 6 days and then the wind blows from a different direction and my bg levels start changing. It is very very frustrating so know how you are feeling a bit.

With bg levels as high as you are getting at the moment, I would use my insulin pen to deliver insulin for a while until my levels dropped back to some sort of normality. Have you made sure that the infusion set is ok and the tube is connected to it ok and no kinks or bubbles.

Your correction bolus should be set to bring you down to your target level without tbr's.

If you use tbr's you miss the opportunity to see if your correction level is right... And you put yourself at risk of hypo's...

I used to use tbrs as I was impatient to get levels down.. But far better to keep drinking and to monitor...i know that if my first correction hasnt started to move my levels down at all within 2 hours that I need to change my set before doing a further correction.. Either by pump or manually as iHs says.

If you do what iHs said about doing a manual correction, then you need to update bolus advice too... Otherwise your pump will not know what insulin you have done and got on board.

It is possible to get a bad box of sets...i have a box upstairs that I just get high levels on..I inform accuchek in instances like this, and they are very good at replacing them. I also make sure I have different batch numbers of sets so if I get a box that isnt good, I can go to a different batch number.

If your levels are altering at the same time each day, it is more than likely your body. If you are getting bad bloods at set times after putting in a new set, then it could be that you havent primed if flexlink, have had a shower/bath and not reprimed tube before reconnecting, or air bubbles, and finally a box of duff sets.

Years ago now, just after having my pump, I was on flexlink plus's and realised really quickly that they were faulty.. And reported to accuchek and mhra. They got withdrawn eventually.

You will become aware what is your body, and whats mechanical.

You will, as iHs says never be on a set basal / bolus regime for the rest of your life... When the wind changes.. Or theres a full moon you will invariably have to change something...

Invariably too, if you raise basals or bolus at certain hours this will impact on the following hours.. Because that insulin increase actually lasts 4-5 hours... If my levels are high say at 12 noon.. I will increase 10am dose... But I may well have to lower my noon dose very slightly... Otherwise that 10am raise can still impact on the bgs later...

Yes I do see what you mean about using TBR,was told to use it when I needed to by my DSN it is handy.
Think numbers were so high because if the drink I had had, then yesterday started with bad morning.
Got up this am to an 8,see how the day goes, hopefully be alright, definitely going out on bike or for a run,as didn't yesterday because felt so wiped out!slept from 10.45ish to 3.30

Hi Jess

If your bg levels were on 8mmol when you woke this morning at 5 - 5.30am, then its most likely that your bg levels started changing direction some time from 11pm - 3am so if you start testing bg levels before going to bed and then during the night you can find out just how long your bg levels have been around the 8mmol mark and whether you will need to alter the basal rates. There have been many times when I have woken up at breakfast time with a bg level that is higher than ideal and then just altered the previous 2-3hr basal rates leading up to the high but what I should have done was test bg levels during the night to detect when the change was happening as I was changing basal rates at the wrong time.

god forbid i ever have to do any of this it all sounds soooo complicated, taking pills is about as much as my brain can handle, good luck to you`s

It is Andy...........

I often feel that I am trying to get from A to B but instead of taking the easiest route and travelling on a straight road, I need to go a long and windy route travelling round the houses first before I am able to reach my destination.

With traffic lights at every junction!! Think you're getting somewhere and something stops you and you end up changing bolus/basals etc...

Glad I don't have to contend with school hols.. And back to school.. Know that canbe hard for children (or their parents!)
