High bg levels for no reason

Hi all. I was diagnosed with type 2 back in May. I'm on Metformin and I was also put on 10 units of Lantus to reduce my numbers from double digits. I went on a low carb diet and I had great results, going down to 7 units of insulin. I'm determined to reverse this, so I tried intermittent fasting (16:8, so nothing drastic), and within a few days my numbers shot up to mid-teens so I immediately stopped. That was a month ago and my numbers are still high, and I'm up to 12 units. I haven't been sleeping well during that time, but I'm not sure if that would be responsible for this. I'm doing everything right, so this is incredibly frustrating to me. I have an appt with my specialist in about 10 days, but just wanted to see if anyone has any insight in the meantime.

Not being able to sleep causes stress which in turn can lead to higher bg levels and increased insulin usage, maybe see what the Specialist says when you see them.

Are you losing weight? No insulin with meals?
Yes, I'm definitely losing weight. My specialist weighed me at the end of July and I had lost 10 kg, and I know I've lost more since then because of how my clothes are fitting(I don't like to weigh myself, I let the specialist do it). And no, I'm not taking any insulin with meals and the Lantus is only supposed to be a temporary thing. I'm really hoping that lower bgs will start to kick in after a few good nights sleep.

Weight loss can be a BIG sign of LADA and needing insulin. Have you had a c- peptide or GAD test?

I went on a strict low carb and low calorie diet, so the weight loss is explained. What's LADA?

Oldsle - you weight loss could be due to your new diet and/or your underlying diabetic condition. As you are seeing your Consultant in about a week (judging from your initial post), it could be worthwhile asking if GAD or c-peptide tests have been done, or could be done, to help determine your and ease your mind.
