Have been struggling to keep my levels lower today but am over 20s I am putting in corrections all the time not eating much to push them up so high. Going to fast tonight. I am stressed caring for elderly parent but how do I calculate how much insulin to use for stress. Don't have any ketone strips . Thanks

I have never come across a way to bolus for stress apart from correct any highs.
Whenever I go high (above 14 or 15), I become insulin resistant so need double my correction dose.
Afterwards, I do lots of testing to check it is working and/or I am not going hypo.

If I am high for a long time, I start to question whether my insulin is actually working and chance my insulin and pens.

Thanks for your reply I found this really interesting and very helpful it does very much feel like I have become insulin resistant over certain level. I've put in a correction dose now , not double I'm not eating so will do lots of checking to monitor levels. I changed my insulin cartridge this morning but starting to feel may be try a new box completely. Thank you so much for sharing your experience it has been invaluable.

Since you don't have any ketone strips: if you experience nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fruity smelling breath, or trouble breathing, consider hospital! Better safe than sorry.

When I am stressed I struggle to keep my blood sugars at a good level, but things I have tried include setting a temp basal (+10, +20), exercise (avoid this until you come down a bit, 20 is too high for exercise), and drinking plenty of water.

You should speak to your HCP team in the morning. Do you have a specialist nurse or someone to contact? If not speak to your GP practice. Much depends on the types and current doses of insulin you are on. You probably should really have the ability to test for ketones - blood testing is much better than urine. Ask about this also tomorrow morning. Continue to test regularly and call your out of hours Centre if you need to seek advice.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Level was 14 this morning I've increased ratio 2:2 for breakfast plus put correction dose in . Also changed injection site and changed lantus cartridge. Will request ketone strips from my GP today. Will drink plenty of water if levels not down by lunchtime will contact nurse for advice.

Managed to reduce levels to 9 yesterday but now back up to 16. Have left message for nurse this morning. I take 20 of lantus in morning. Wondering if should increase dose to see if makes a difference. Thanks
