Hi folks.
I have just measured my blood sugar after not eaten for 7hrs after breakfast this morning. The result was 12mml ,I though by the way I feel that it may be low and that I may need to eat.I am type 2 and take Sitagliptin and Pioglitazone daily.Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi

What was your pre-breakfast blood sugar reading and what did you eat for breakfast?

Do you use sugar in your tea/coffee?

A reading of 12 isn't low. The single reading doesn't tell you all that much if you don't have a baseline reading to compare it with. Ideally, you'd have a reading directly before breakfast and another at +2hrs. You are not looking for the "high point" - you're testing to see how well your system handled the carb in what ever it was you ate. The high point probably occurs in the first hour after eating, depending on what you ate.

The other thing is that your liver will be adding glucose to your bloodstream to keep you at the level the liver thinks you ought to be. If you've had high blood glucose for a while, the liver will think of this as normal and do its best to maintain the level. Livers do learn to accept lower BG levels eventually, but it takes time and consistency.
