Give it time, and remember it's not just about the medication. It takes time to make lasting alterations to our diet and exercise routine. I would also add that stress management and doing whatever you can to get a good night's sleep are also important

Hi and welcome to the forum @CazJ . If you don't mind me asking what was your HbA1c result? You may wish to check out some of the success stories as well as our food forums. Many T2 's have had great results with dietary changes, specifically reducing carbohydrate intake. Many have put their diabetes in remission through diet, worth checking out.

Hi - I have no personal experience with diabetic medication, and this is based mainly on Bilous and Donnelly's Handbook of Diabetes. I see from your profile that you're on glipizide and metformin.

Metformin doesn't affect blood glucose directly. What it does do is interfere with your liver making and adding glucose to your system (our livers do this all the time). Your liver probably thinks of high blood glucose levels as "normal" and will be doing its best to keep them high. This can take time to change.

Metformin also seems to stimulate insulin action.

Glipizide stimulates insulin secretion and should therefore reduce your blood glucose directly to some extent. Neither drug would be expected to give you "normal blood glucose" levels within days, though.

Although carbohydrate reduction (to 20g/day) worked very well and very quickly for me in reducing my BG, I would be cautious about recommending you try it while you're taking the glipizide. You would need to talk to your doctor about it once it's clear how the glipizide is affecting your current levels.

best of luck - this forum is a great resource and you're encouraged to ask as many questions as you like.
