Hi,
I am type2 diabetic, diagnosed about 4 years back. i am on oral medication and take metformin 500 mg twice a day. My general glucose readings are fine on an average. ( Before meal 6.5 and after meal 8).
My last Hba1c also was fine ( 53, taken in June) Just yesterday later in the day, i did a random check and was surprised that it read 18.4. This is the first time i got this reading since i got diagnosed. I checked the BG level again this morning and it is 6.4 before meal.
IS it something to worry about ? DO we generally get such spikes in BG readings.
I have taken my doctors appointment though but i am little concerned to know is this something common.

Best regards

Usually it is contamination on your fingers.
What had you eaten beforehand though?

Thanks Douglas99. I checked again 2 hours after meal just now. Its 6.8 ! So i just think it might be some contamination on my fingers or something to do with the meter.

If you get an unexpected reading it is always wise to wash hands again and re-test. We all get rogue readings sadly. On one occasion I ended up testing 6 times - the rogue reading got worse, then much better. There was a 2.5mmol/l difference between highest and lowest.
