Hi
I’ve been a type 2 for over 20 years. Until last December I managed quite well with Metformin and Gliclazide, however my bloods started to increase and my nurse increased the Gliclazide and added Sitagliptin. Blood sugars improved vastly although I didn’t feel particularly well. Recently I became with Jaundice and was admitted to hospital. There, I was immediately taken off the Glic and Sitag and my condition improved almost overnight. Unfortunately my sugars have increased, and my Doctor has put me back on the Sitagliptin alongside the Metformin. Sugars are still high and I have an appointment with my nurse tomorrow. I’m considering asking her to put me on Insulin, is this a good idea?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

Have you tried diet at any point? Because if not, that might still be a way to avoid medication/insulin. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help some. T2's have come off insulin by changing their diet in the past, just please do test a whole heck of a lot, because you might hypo if you low carb with certain medication, and I don't know what you're going to be put on tomorrow.

In any case, good luck!
Jo

Hi Tony , I was also put on Glic & Sitagliptin (after a bad reaction to Metaformin)& the DN wanted me straight on insulin. I argued against the insulin & got a reprieve for 90 days. Through lowering carbs (150g ish / 10%) & portion control I’ve got my HbAc1 from 105 to 44 & lost 5kg. I use a Libre 2 to monitor & keep my BG below 9 - averages 5.6 -6.4 this has been a game changer.
Insulin not mentioned now & Glic has just been cut so just on Sitagliptin 100mg (which is horrible). I hope to ditch that in 6 months.
With the Sit I often take a paracetamol which seems to help. Also taking high dose Vit B12 as hair is thinning/falling out. Am having insomnia on it hence writing this at 3am & consistent “fuzzy” head. I’ve not had the common side effects on the PIL - nausea etc though kidney playing up (but that could be something else). Doc told me to take in the morning with a good breakfast (in the middle) not before or after- with a glass of water. I’m not sure if this is why I’m not getting the digestive issues?
