High blood sugars following surgery

Hi, quite new here but been type 1 for 35 years and always had good control.

Got my gallbladder removed last week and a hernia repair, first time I’ve ever had surgery and my blood sugars seem to be all over the place, mostly high.

Has anyone experienced similar following surgery and how long before everything was under control again? Is this a thing that surgery can do to you?

Yep, our body is put under stress when we have surgery so our helpful livers release glucose to aid repair.
I don’t remember how long it took for my levels to come down but suspect it’s another of those “we are all different” things.
I recommend following your sick day rules, giving your body time to recover and heal.

Hi ,
New here myself also,
Have been Type 1 for 43 year's.
Currently in a similar situation as yourself.
I am off my feet due to accident and I am awaiting urgent surgery.
Sugars now running high with previous good control.
I contacted my Diabetes Nurse Specialist yesterday and as previously mentioned by other member it's stress!
Apparently there's no real way of management..?
Hope all goes well for a speedy recovery.
Mark
