Hi
I am only prediabetic but on metformin 500mg twice a day due to spikes that show my blood sugars do rocket up in random blood sugar tests and me always feeling hungry and tired from food. It has helped and now I eat about 70g carb a day . Feel good. I am slim. 60. Like exercise.
So last week I got Covid. Not too bad at first, but on day 7 my headache and nausea intensified so much I went to hospital for a few hours .
I ate little for 48 hours until the pain went away did not even take my metformin ( nauseated) I thought I don’t need to . My levels have been in the sixes and now I did not eat last two days so I thought the metformin had nothing to do. Maybe a mistake
Alas, I ate two small vegetable fritters last night plus some broth with chicken in it. I took metformin with the meal. My blood sugar was 11.8 two and a half hours after. This morning my blood sugar is 8.9
It’s usually 6.1 .
Will this be temporary or will have to be treated like a diabetic now for a while ? I’ll just cut more carbs and increase the fat protein and fibre, right? Should I increase my metformin. I know the doctor will tell me , appointment is tomorrow. But the Telehealth phone call will be like 4 minute rush job with her running late so any chat from you is welcome as I sit here in bed yet another day.
