High blood sugars

I have been diabetic for the last few years, on occasion I have been ill and therefore had raised blood sugars but usually I can get rid of them with increased doses of insulin. For most meals I have 8units of apidra, however the last week I have been increasing the units more each time, sometimes double, and I can't seem to get it below 10. (My usual is under 10). I have had a small amount of ketones which I know is not dangerous yet after the continuous days with them I have begun to feel awful. I work in a hospital and was sent home on Saturday and had yesterday off, I have tried to contact my gp but have been told a diabetic nurse will not be available to call me until tomorrow at the earliest.
When I was diagnosed I was let down massively by my doctor therefore sometimes wish for extra reassurance when my diabetes misbehaves. But I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas with who to talk to just for advice on how else to go about it!

Sorry for the essay thank you

Apologies for asking what may seem like the blatantly obvious.

Have you changed your insulin and pen? I once saw my BG rise and rise and rise. I changed the pen to my back up and saw no change. I changed the insulin vial and saw no change. I got a new prescription and everything started to come back down to normal. I can only assume it was a dodgy batch of insulin or it was stored badly at some point. Thankfully, only ever happened once in 15 years.

Unfortunately, the stress of worrying about not getting your BG under control is likely to contribute to the higher BG. So, if possible, try not to panic. Yeah, I know. easier said than done.

As for talking to someone else, have you tried a pharmacist?

Hi @Diabellie8494 :)

As said above, first change your insulins in case that's the issue.

Do you count carbs? Could you be coming down with an illness?
