Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

You need to go to A&E. Now.

Georgie, have you checked for ketones or do you have any way of checking for them? If you do have any or can't check then I would agree with Wiflib that you need to get some medical help now

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

Please, just get to hospital as fast as you can.

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

It's very hard for us to advise as we do not know enough information about your situation, if I were you and I couldn't check for ketones then I would be taking a trip down to A&E.

I do not wish to alarm but DKA can be life threatening and it's best that you get proper treatment rather than mess about if you are not 100% certain with what you need to do

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

If you have healthy kidney's they will put you on fluids to help flush out the glucose they may check your bloods to see what your potassium is doing as this can also drop dangerously low with DKA.. once they have done that they will then more than likely put you onto insulin to try and control your levels.

Staying overnight is a possibility depending on how you respond...

The two times I have been once I was home in 5 hours.. the other time I spent six days in hospital having been very very ill.

Again not trying to alarm but very high blood sugars are dangerous.. if you can;t check for ketones and you are unsure of what you should be doing, then please do go to A&E

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

Just tell them you're a t1 diabetic, your blood sugar is very high and you can't get it down and you're concerned about DKA. Hope you feel better soon, let us know! xx

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

Thanks to everyone on this post for the advice you gave Georgie - I'm glad you were there to push firmly for Georgie to seek medical advice; absolutely the right thing to do.

Georgie - I hope you're feeling better. Let us know how you get on.

PS: Throwing up in A&E is about the last thing you should worry about. If you've been to A&E on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll know what I mean.

Re: High blood sugars....feeling ill

Indeed you should never be worried about going to A&E better to get it checked out and given the all clear than get into real trouble... especially where blood sugars are concerned... lets hope Georgie is feeling better this morning
