Hiya every year I go out for a work meal with my friend I'm type 2 on metformin I have just took my blood and it is 25.8 what do i do ? Should I skip going for the meal at a risk of making it go higher it will be the traditional carvery meal ??

Maybe try going for a leisurely walk and drinking some water. Are you feeling ok? Sometimes higher blood sugar levels can be indicative of an oncoming illness. What levels do you usually run at?

If it is not a rogue reading I would miss the carvery and to be honest if the numbers were not coming down I would go to A&E or at least get advice on the NHS Advice Line on 111.

If the numbers were coming down fairly quickly and steadily I may put off going to A&E but would get to the GP/Diabetes Nurse pronto.

I feel ok my levels have been high for ages but doctor won't increase my metformin yet says he is going to wait while January

Levels that high are pretty worrying (or I would be worried by them anyway).
What kind of stuff do you usually eat? Do you have a way to measure ketone levels?

No never even heard if testing them I was told by doctor I don't need to test my blood

I agree with those that say that is a dangerous level if it doesn't drop quickly. Keep testing, drink plenty of water,.

What are your normal levels at this time of day? I hope you aren't relying on Metformin alone. Diet is the key, and carbs are the culprits. Metformin only helps to a very limited extent.

They was 33 yesterday came down overnight but no lower than 15 had bacon and eggs for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch

You really need to get this sorted. A reading of 33mmol is definitely cause to seek medical attention.

Yes, with levels that high you could be heading for serious trouble, and even if you feel OK you are doing damage to your body. You need help, and quickly .... are you testing before and after eating? What sort of rise do you see after your sandwich?

May I ask what your HbA1c results have been, please.

I don't normally test as I was told I didn't need to because I am only on metformin

I'm not on any drugs and I test first thing and at my evening meal.
Outside of that I don't test unless I feel odd or have eaten something that I'm not sure of.
I now know how most of my normal diet affects me but you will be surprised at how things affect you.

You should get a meter and start testing. It will help no end.

Numbers as high as yours need action. I rarely ever go over 7 and go as low as 3.8 after a good walk. Eating under 50g a day.

I certainly would go nowhere near a sandwich.

We're all told not to test. We do anyway, which is why the bulk of us have our T2 under control. Your numbers really are alarmingly high. Please get looked after.

My last test was 49.9 one before that 10.2.. so I think the avg is just for today
