High BP on fasting/ VLCD - oops silly me

I've put some weight on in the last month . I'm trying to get back on track using fasting/ very low calorie and carb techniques. Its working ridiculously well ( 4.8 kg in 5 days!! - mainly removing the additional water of course - but satisfying none the less)

There was fly in the ointment. On Sunday I took my BP . I'm normally about 125 / 84 , but Sunday it had shot up to 156/99 and it seemed to be somehow more difficult to get a reading. Much searching of the internet didn't reveal this as a side effect of fasting, I decided to carry on going up my exercise and walking to try to get it back down again. The BP stayed high Monday, Tuesday Wednesday morning. I decided to try a 20 km bike ride Wednesday evening because in the past exercise has brought my BP down. I measured again before bed - no matter how hard I tried and no matter which arm I could not get a reading at all. Clearly my new diet is seriously affecting my health. I went to bed with plans to make an emergency call to my doctor this morning. I slept fitfully having dreams of heart attacks.

This morning I tried again - the machine crept slowly upto about 140 , then gave up the ghost fitfully reading somewhere between 120 and 130 with no sign of it actually completing the test - clearly my need for medical assistance is urgent ! but lets have breakfast first as I am obviously going to be spending hours in waiting rooms today.

Breakfast and morning cuppa finished I tried again - still not reading BUT suddenly I thought - What about the batteries?

So I changed the batteries - hey presto 126/84 and the machine no longer sonuds like it is struggling uphill.

I know brain fog is a symptom of very high blood sugars. maybe total idiocy is a symption of fasting !

Thank goodness I'm not the only one that has had this experience. You'd think they would build in a 'battery low' warning!! Unfortunately I ended up at the doctor BEFORE I thought about the batteries.

That made me laugh out loud. I reminds me of the (many) times I have complained about some item of equipment not working only for the man of the house to look at me quizzically and say " have you thought about plugging it in "
