Hi Guys,
unfortunately this afternoon I had and ice cream (is the first time after years) and my BS value before dinner was 17.4!!!!! I had hamburger and broccoli for dinner but now I am very concerned about this 17.4 value. What I can do to down quickly the BS, please?! Is the first time see this value in my life.

Thanks for your help

Tony

Hi Tony, can you go for a walk or run up and down stairs? Drink as much water as you can too, these are both methods which can help. Test your blood again in a couple of hours and let us know the result?

Have you retested to make sure you don't have anything on your fingers to contaminate the reading? Wash hands first...just a thought..

Thank you 13lizanne I'll try to do it. Usually I don't drink too much water but I'll try to do. I will post my lecture after the 2 hours.

Sometimes you can get unexpected high readings.. always best to do another test with washed hands.

Repeated the measure just 20 minutes after dinner and after my last dose of metformine now is 14.9

That's good it's coming down, try the water and exercise now? Good Luck!

I was writing as you posted again. Check your glucose level again at 1 hour and 2 hour post meal. It generally takes my glucose level 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes to peak. It's highly individual though. :)

@anespo I had a slice of cheese cake - (something I've not done before) - after a dinner of chicken and brocolli that resulted in a high glucose level last night. Walked for 20 minutes and knocked it down:

pre-meal 109 mg/dl (6.1 mmol/L)
1hr 9 min post-meal 149 mg/dl (8.3 mmol/L)
1 hr 46 min post-meal 203 mg/dl (11.3 mmol/L)
2 hr 49 min post-meal following a 20 min walk 126 mg/dl (7.0 mmol/L).

It happens to all of us now and then. :)

When this happens to me I drink a glass of water and go for a 15 to 20 minute walk. I walk regularly so can now knock down a high glucose level by up to 80 mg/dl - (77 mg/dl (4.3 mmol/L) in the above example).

If I can't walk or engage in physical activity, I delay eating my next meal, or if really hungry, I'll have a high fat snack of an avocado or raw nuts until my glucose levels come back down before eating my next meal.

Let us know what happens. :)

Well thanks everybody for your suggestions after 15 minutes walked and after 2 hours the BS is 12.5 which is quite normal since the GP stopped the Glicazide.
Thanks again

Glad your glucose levels are continuing to drop. :)

Yeah Thank you Guys I see am not feel alone. I was diagnosed diabetic type 2 in 2010 in my own country, but due to continuos changes of countries for my work I didn't really had a good nutrition habit. Now I am stable in UK and I am followed by very good doctors and also with this forum I learning a lot. About the low carb diet I will ask some questions in the good section, because for example I hate chicken, cauliflower and broccoli and every time have to eat them is a dram for me.
Thanks again

I'm not comfortable with any glucose level over 140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/l) and will do everything I can to knock it back down. That said, there are times when due to circumstances, I can't. That's the only time I'd consider monitoring my glucose levels in the way your doctor described.

In general, a high glucose level results in a lower or higher fasting glucose the next day. It's a flip of the coin. But I find that glucose levels for the rest of the "next day" will run higher. Don't know, but I'd hazard a guess that this is true for many who have severe insulin resistance and who don't use medication or insulin.

Well me too. I am uncomfortable over 7/8 mmol/l become to have my face warming, the ears are like in airplane, palpitations etc. Unfortunately since the doctor stopped glicazide my BG is everyday over 8. They stopped glicazide because my HbA1C is 45, and also because glicazide + 3g per day of metformine gave me continuos dizziness and the feeling to walking in the clouds. Probably next Tuesday the doctor should be give me an injection to do once per week + my usual 3g of metformine. With my job my gym activity is equal to 0, I'd like swimming but have no time to do it. The only moment when I stopped metformine for almost one year was in 2010 when I had a Gastric bend, but it was removed after 1 year cause continuos vomiting and was also bad placed.

@anespo This has been quite a journey. You've come a long way. It's good that you're continuing to move forward. You're among friends here. We'll help you on the low carb diet forum one step at a time. Well actually, sometimes it's two steps forward, one step back. It's hard at first, but it gets easier with each change you make. :)
