High Cholesterol Link To Greater Alzheimer's Risk
Those with a cholesterol reading above 5.8 mmol/L had considerably more brain plaques than those with lower or normal cholesterol levels.
In a previous study, Sasaki had discovered that insulin resistance was linked to the presence of brain plaques.

Please don't just read the headline, Beware of assumed cause and effect or "guilt by association"... just because factors are associated it does not mean that one is cause and the other effect.

As the lead researcher himself stated...
Our study clearly makes the point that high cholesterol may contribute directly or indirectly to plaques in the brain, but failed treatment trials of cholesterol-lowering drugs in Alzheimer's disease means there is no simple link between lowering cholesterol and preventing Alzheimer's.
In fact the Medical News Today article as linked above seems to have some very tenuous associations all the way through.

Cholesterol has many, many essential roles in the body including damage control... it may be that the raised cholesterol in these instances is in response to whatever else is causing the Alzheimer's.
