to your question :
yes maybe... many type 2´s have very raised cholesterol, but is the cholesterol the problem or is it rather the metabolic syndrom and insuline resitance that is the devastating core problem in type 2 diabetes, I think it is the last.
Cardiovascular disease is very common especially with type 2 diabetics who die in a much higher rate of heart attacks and fatal blood clotting,than do the non-diabetic healthy people.

But it also seems to be more a matter of how much calcification it leads to in our veins and not just the raised cholesterol in it self that is a problem .... so there is a lot one can do, and a low cholesterol is not in it self just plain life saving..

There could be a correlation, certainly with type 2 in that when someone is seen to be fat bloodtests are ordered in order to determine cholesterol levels - as getting fat is associated with eating fat in the minds of healthcare professionals, and eating fat is assumed to raise cholesterol.
I have had symptoms of poor carb tolerance for decades, but no tests were done.
Prior to diagnosis with diabetes I was being pushed to lower cholesterol by diet, eating all those 'healthy' carbs. It was only when I went to have blood taken at the clinic that a test for Hba1c level and blood glucose was ordered. (Possibly by accident)

Previously, when I went to the hospital with a blood test order from the clinic taken it was only for things associated with my defunct thyroid function to be tested.

The correlation could well be that the advice given to undiagnosed diabetics is to eat things which are wrong for them, so they have elevated blood glucose for years, and they still get bad advice - continue to eat carbs - after diagnosis - which is impressed upon them as being a healthy lifestyle, and essential for them,

Welcome to the forum. It's probably more related to diet. It's best if I give an example. In December 2016 my total cholesterol was 4. During January, February and March I replaced 0% yoghurt with the real stuff, ate proper cheese more often (not Edam) and started to add cream to my diet as a treat. At the end of March my total cholesterol was 5.7. Whoops, I wonder what that could be, the only dietary change being dairy. Dairy has now been removed from my diet.

So, I for one cannot go with the HF part of LCHF, but other people are far more able to process dairy.

There is evidence to suggest that ingested cholesterol does not affect cholesterol levels, but fats do. The body makes variable amounts cholesterol as well.

I have had relatively high levels of lipids for about forty years now so far so good. If I had had high blood sugars for the last forty years I think I would be in a bad way by now..

The risk factors for heart attacks and CVD are several. Diabetes is one risk factor. Genetics is another. Then we have smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, being over weight, age, ethnicity, chronic kidney disease, underlying heart problems, high triglycerides and LDL, and low HDL, even ailments such as rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases, and then we have environment. Probably lots of others, too.

Perhaps, stress worrying about having a heart attack is a factor? Better to get out in the countryside and have a walk and breath clean air away from diesel fumes. D.

I always got on pretty well with my mother in law in fact I for some reason was one of the few people she did get on with.

My mother stresses me - her most recent idea is that I've been misdiagnosed because I eat bacon , cheese and cream .. when her dad was diabetic ( 40 years ago ) blah blah blah argggg
