Just when you think you've got a handle on this thing....

Been diagnosed for a month or two, and been pretty good with following LC diet. Yesterday was average, with a bolognese cooked for dinner by my wife - checked the ingredients but nothing outrageous (picked out the carrots, had a few kidney beans tho).
Had a day off testing yesterday (to give my fingers a chance to rest!) and when I tested first thing this morning: 7.4! I know that's not dangerous but it's way above what I usually get in the morning (5.9-6.5).

Just had a shower and now it's 8.1!! Starting to feel a tiny bit of panic? What do I do? What could I have done different?

Also had a great time at badminton on Monday eve - lots of really good exercise as I watched my BG rise throughout the evening. Again, really nothing bad for dinner.

Getting more confused!! :-S

Dunno. So you had bolognese last evening (dinner)? Since you didn't test before and after we can only surmise it was an ingredient you missed. 7.4 might be a liver dump but it should subside, not increase.
I'm sure someone will be able to nail it though.
Oh. bump by the way.

Did you have pasta with the bolognaise? Was the sauce homemade or a ' Dolmio' type jar as sugar content could be quite high. Hidden sugars in everything and carbs to glucose too.

Don't be discouraged. Its early days.:)

Thankyou!
I guess I just panicked a bit. Was a homemade sauce - thinking about it not technically a bolognese as it didn't have tomatoes!! - and a bit of mashed cauliflower.

Just a bit disheartening when you think you've got it covered :)

The shower may not have helped. Some people find showers and baths raise their levels. Also exercise can raise levels, too. It certainly does with me, so your badminton may have caused that rise. These liver dumps are the most frustrating thing about this disease.

Thanks @Bluetit1802. So I kind of understand about the liver dump but is there anything I can do about it (apart from lose weight)?

Is it an indicator of something I'm doing wrong, or is it just one of those things? I've read that the post-meal reading is one of the most important - how dangerous is a high reading first thing in the morning?

Please don't panic. Our morning fasting levels are notoriously unpredictable for many reasons, most of which are outside our control. You have just had a bad day, part of this steep learning curve. Sometimes too much protein the day before can cause a higher than normal fasting level, sometimes a restless night or anxiety can cause it, or maybe an infection you know nothing about yet. I wouldn't worry. See what happens tomorrow. One way to stop it rising is to eat breakfast as soon as you can - before showering perhaps?

Did you test before you went to bed? I always do so I can keep an eye on any overnight rises. It may well be you went to bed higher than normal for instance. Also, when you saw the 7.4 and 8.1, did you re-test? Contamination on your fingers and hands or a rogue test strip can cause false readings. We all get them.

As your normal fasting levels are good, I really don't see the need to worry because you had one bad day.
